About Us

The international Baroque Collegium 1685 – Choir and Orchestra debuted in April 2016 with the Easter Oratorio BWV 249 by J.S. Bach.
The founder and artistic director of Baroque Collegium 1685 is Agnieszka Żarska.

The musical mission of the Collegium is to present oratorio and cantata works, based on historical informed performance approach and to communicate and promote them to a wide audience.

Baroque Collegium 1685 brings together passionate singers and renowned instrumentalists of the HIP approach from Poland and abroad.

It is a project ensemble, which regularly collaborates with internationally renowed soloists, a.o. Andreas Scholl, Peter Kooij, Olga Pasiecznik, Krystian Adam Krzeszowiak, Benedikt Kristjansson and many others. 

The group’s achievements include e.g. the first, high-quality live audio/video recordings of oratorio and cantata works in Poland,  including: G.F. Handel’s Oratorio “Saul” with Peter Kooij in the title role,  J. S. Bach’s Oratorios: BWV 11, 248 and 249, broadcast on Polish TV, as well as selected Bach Cantatas.

In 2024, Ars Sonora label released a double album CD entitled: “Baroque Collegium 1685 live”, which includes fragments of the ensemble’s concerts with the participation of renowned soloists. 

Baroque Collegium 1685 is the laureate of the “Musical Eagles” 2024 award, granted by the Polish music community, for the concert: 
“B minor Mass” by J.S. Bach, that took place in the Archcathedral in Przemyśl/Poland.

Ensemble, as an independent initiative, was established on the basis of international artistic cooperation; it operates under the aegis of the Polish association – Szczawnica Chamber Choir.
