George Frideric Handel – “Alexander’s Feast or the Power of Music”
As part of Baroque Explorations AD 2026, the Baroque Collegium 1685, conducted by Agnieszka Żarska, is preparing the premiere production of Handel’s Oratorio “Alexander’s Feast or the Power of Music”, composed to the libretto of John Dryden’s famous ode, adapted by Hamilton.
It was the success of this excellent, monumental work at the Covent Garden Theatre in 1736, that prompted Handel to abandon Italian opera in favor of English oratorio.
